Mount Ijen Crater (or commonly abbreviated to Ijen Crater) is an active volcano in East Java. This mountain is part of the National Park Alas Purwo, located in Banyuwangi, East Java. However, administratively, crater divided into two districts, Bondowoso and Banyuwangi regency, East Java.
Mount Ijen crater has a height of about 2443 meters above sea level (asl) and has erupted several times, in 1796, 1817, 1913, and 1936. As a result of explosions, a wide-gaping crater lake with miracle sulfur (sulfur) in it. Perhaps, because of the vastness and water capacity of sulfur in the crater, the crater is one of the largest crater lake in the world.

Sightseeing trip to the crater is quite impressive journey. When departing from Bondowoso City, travelers can witness the beautiful coffee plantation on the slopes of Mount Ijen. Coffee farms here produce superior quality coffee exports. Not only that, before reaching the crater, the vehicle can be parked briefly to watch the beautiful Waterfall Banyupahit. Named banyupahit because spring water is derived from the crater which contains sulfur, so that the water tastes bitter and green in color . In addition the visitors can also breathe in cool air from pine forests that lined neatly around the location of this waterfall.
After quite satisfied with the sensation of these natural attractions, tourists can continue the journey toward the crater. To reach the lip of the crater, climbing is required as far as 2-3 miles. Although quite tiring, but the fatigue that will pay off when the eyes are pampered by stunning natural scenery. Mount Ijen crater has a crater with a long line of + 911 meters and 600 meters wide. Inside the crater there is a "puddle" green water containing sulfur covering about 54 hectares, or about 40 million cubic meters. From the edge of the crater, sticking a concentrated sulfur-scented smoke. As a precaution, travelers should bring a mask to protect the lungs from respiratory irritants.

Crater tourist area is divided into two districts and two districts, district Licin, Banyuwangi regency, and district Sempol located in the Bondowoso regency, East Java, Indonesia.
Access
To reach the crater recreation areas, travelers can head Bondowoso City using public transportation (buses and angkotan cities) as well as private vehicles. From the north (Situbondo), travelers can go to District Sempol, Bondowoso, with a travel time of about 2.5 to 3 hours, passing smoothly paved road as far as + 90 km. From Village Sempol, travelers can hire a public vehicle or motorcycle taxi to the Post Paltuding which is about 15 km from the village of Sempol.
If the journey starts from the south (Banyuwangi), the traveler takes about 30 minutes (+ 15 km) to arrive in the District of slippery, Banyuwangi, and then continued on to post Paltuding 18 km. From Licin towards Post Paltuding, tourists are advised to use (rented) vehicle type jeep double axle because the contour of the road quite steep and often damaged by rain and every day passed by trucks transporting sulfur.
Post Paltuding is the last post before tourists make the climb. From Post Paltuding, tourists can make the climb to the crater as far as 2-3 km. The climb should be done in the morning to avoid pekatnya sulfur smoke. At 14:00 pm, usually climbing lane is closed for security reasons, because it was feared the wind that contain sulfur leading to a tourist route so dangerous.
